Dermal fillers
“The goal of dermal fillers is to look refreshed, lifted and smooth. Like you, but better. The results should be ‘invisible.’ No one will know you’ve had anything done.”
– Courtney Lo, PA & Founder
What do dermal fillers help?
Dermal fillers smooth lines, naturally restore lip volume, rejuvenate aging hands and lift sagging cheeks.

What’s the best filler?
The best dermal filler depends on where the product is being injected and the cosmetic goal. And the dermal filler placement techniques and experience is just as important as the dermal filler chosen.
For a patient who just wants to get rid of lip lines but no lip enhancement, Refyne or Volbella may be the lip filler of choice.
For natural lip injections that smooth deeper lines or give a very natural lip rejuvenation, our master injectors often choose Restylane Kysse. Silk and Juvederm dermal fillers give beautiful lip enhancement.
Restylane is best for undereye filler due to its predictability.
Defyne and Contour are the preferred jawline fillers. Restylane Lyft is our preferred hand filler.
Voluma, Lyft, and Contour are the most common cheek and chin fillers. Our master injectors use both cheek and chin filler to create balance and harmony for a more feminine or masculine facial shape.
Does filler work for fine lines?
There are two fillers (Restylane Refyne and Volbella) that are very good for filling or smoothing fine lines without plumping the skin. These fillers can be used for lip lines, fine lines around the mouth, sleep lines, and cheek lines.
At Cosmetic Skin & Laser Center, our master injectors are also trained in skin boost. These microinjections of filler improve very fine lines and help with skin hydration.
How fillers work
Similar to your cells
Dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a clear gel that is formulated very similarly to your own body's own natural hyaluronic acid. They are formulated at different viscosities or thicknesses and are chosen based on the goal and area being treated: volume replacement, line smoothing, hand rejuvenation, ear lobe plumping and/or lip rejuvenation.
dERMAL FILLer Appointment
Topical anesthetic medicine is applied prior to treatment. After a consultation with your injector, the filler is precisely placed in area of concern.
Bruising is possible, but there is much less bruising than in years past since we use cannulas (a blunt needle) to place most of our fillers.
Instant, long-lasting results
Treatments take just about 20-60 minutes depending on how many areas are being treated. It's most common to treat multiple areas at one appointment.
Filler results are immediate and last about a year. Fillers stimulate collagen in the area of the injection as the product is reabsorbed, providing progressive, long lasting results.
“Our ‘global face approach’ to dermal fillers is what sets us apart, and has clients leaving the office looking renewed and refreshed, without any obvious signs of having had work done.”
– Lee Middleton, RN & Master Injector
How much do fillers cost?
Dermal fillers start at around $600. One vial of filler is used to smooth a few lines or for lip injections and for undereye filler. For liquid lift or full face rejuvenation with filler, multiple vials may be injected at one visit.
At Cosmetic Skin & Laser Center, our injectors inject dermal filler on a daily basis. We will discuss filler cost at your complimentary consultation in Petoskey, Traverse City, Naples, or Boca Grande prior to the injections.

Client Testimonial
“Dr. Lo, Courtney, Jette, Kelly, Jess, and the whole crew are the bomb.com! They are completely amazing at what they do and they drop the professional wall and present themselves just like all of us. They get it, we all want to look and feel better... they do too and have experienced the services themselves. This is comforting. They tell you the real deal, listen, and are just true pros without the edge. I have been going to them for years and what ever products or services they have recommended for me have been spot on. They are more than just medical clinicians – they are human artists! Thanks for all you do!”

Dermal Filler Frequently Asked Questions
Good dermal filler injections look very natural. After dermal fillers, deeper wrinkles and lines are smoothed away, cheeks are lifted, under eye hollows go away, and volume is replaced. Dermal filler results are instant, improve for 2-4 weeks, and then fade away slowly over 9-24 months depending on the dermal fillers chosen.
Many clients start Sculptra in the 30s, as collagen production dramatically slows down in the 20s. One to three vials are injected per visit with repeat injections as needed. When seeking full correction, it is common to be seen 2-4 times about 4-12 weeks apart. The best results are actually 12 weeks after injections.
Want to maintain how you look now? Maintaining facial volume and skin structure generally requires 1-2 vials a year. FDA-approved Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid, the same material that’s been used in dissolvable sutures for more than 20 years, with results that last over two years. Sculptra consultations are complimentary at our Cosmetic Skin & Laser Center offices in Traverse City, Petoskey, Naples, and Boca Grande.
At CSLC, we are trained and masterful at injecting fillers in lips, cheeks, under eyes, ear lobes, hands, and for liquid lifts. We are known for our natural injections for facial sagging (aka Liquid Lift).
Yes, however injecting platelet-rich fibrin or platelet-rich plasma fills acne scars by stimulating new collagen. Patients at CSLC are generally happier with PRF for acne scarring vs dermal filler for acne scarring.
Dermal fillers are injected into the hands to plump the skin and reduce the visible veins in aging hands. At CSLC, we use many fillers for aging hands including Restylane Lyft, Radiesse, PRF (platelet-rich fibrin), and Juvederm.
Absolutely! Hyaluronidase is a product that dissolves hyaluronic acid fillers. Our aesthetic providers are trained to use hyaluronidase and we always have it in our office for safety purposes. In addition, filler can be dissolved to tweak an unwanted filler result.
Dermal fillers last anywhere from 6 months to two years. Generation one fillers like Restylane-L, Restylane Silk and Juvederm generally fade after 6-9 months. Generation 2 fillers like Restylane Kysse, Voluma, Defyne, Refyne and Contour last around a year.
Yes! Our favorite natural fillers are platelet-rich fibrin and platelet-rich plasma. With just a simple in office blood draw we can get get your platelet-rich fibrin. PRF offers amazing improvement in acne scars in where there is thin skin like the hands or under eyes.
No - filler and Botox are completely different.
Botox is a neuromodulator that relaxes muscles which softens wrinkles in areas of expression, for example the 11's or scowl lines between the brows, forehead lines, or wrinkles around the eyes. Your refreshed look typically lasts 3-4 months. Many people start Botox in their late 20's as a prejuvenation treatment to prevent static lines.
Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid gels that are used to revolumize areas with deficit - like a deep wrinkle or an area that is hollowing or sinking with aging - for instance your under eyes or cheeks. Fillers give instant results and last about 12 months.
Our mission at CSLC is to enhance your lips natural shape and give you better lips that appear like they were yours to begin with. We've trained with the best of the best for lip filler and are all trained in advanced lip rejuvenation techniques.
There are 3 primary reasons patients need or request lip filler.
First, lip filler can mildly rejuvenate very thin lips genetically or from aging.
Second, certain lip fillers and techniques can smooth and hydrate wrinkled lips.
And finally, patients want fuller or more voluptuous lips.
Regardless of the desire, for the most natural lips at CSLC in Petoskey, Traverse City, Naples, and Boca Grande, we perform lip injections slowly with 1/2-1 syringe at a time which allows the filler to integrate into the tissue naturally. We choose the best lip filler based on your needs and lip goals.
Going slow is always better, prevents migration of the filler, and promotes a very natural outcome. Our injectors are 15 years Platinum Plus injectors for Allergan and top 15 nationwide for Galderma. We also participate with Alle and Aspire injectable reward programs to help you save on injectables.
Dermal fillers for wrinkle reduction are ideal for individuals at any age and stage that want to look like themselves, just refreshed. As we say “It’s the injector, not the syringe.” Our experienced providers at our medical spa and laser center help patients look better at any age. You are never "too old" to want to look like the best version of yourself.
Many clients start dermal fillers in their 30s, as collagen production dramatically slows down in the 20s. The thought is that it’s much easier to tweak than take 20 years off with dermal fillers. Dermal fillers not only reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles, they also maintain facial volume and balance.
Collagen is the firming and moisture-retaining component of skin. Once lost, skin becomes thinner, drier, and less firm and bouncy. When dermal fillers are injected superficially in to a line, many times collagen is encouraged in that area so the line remains faded long after the dermal filler is reabsorbed.
Cost is the most common question we are asked at Cosmetic Skin & Laser Center. Dermal fillers cost the same in all three of our locations. The cost of dermal fillers for wrinkle reduction varies depending on which filler is utilized and how much is needed. Generation one filler cost is different than generation two fillers for facial wrinkles. Our providers will discuss pricing and customize your treatment depending on goals during your complimentary consultation.
The best lip filler for you depends greatly on your anatomy, your desires and your goals. Lip fillers can be used to hydrate lips, plump lips, or define lips and the injection techniques and fillers chosen vary greatly depending on your goals. At our medspa and laser center in Naples, Petoskey and Traverse City, our experienced providers will help you determine which lip filler will produce the results you desire during your consultation. We offer over a dozen dermal fillers to choose from with all Juvederm and Restylane products.
There are several dermal fillers that can be useful in jawline contouring but at our medspa and laser center we typically use Restylane Defyne, Contour, or Lyft. Dermal fillers for facial contouring are used to restore lost volume in cheeks and smooth out facial wrinkles.
Sculptra is cosmetic injectable made of poly-L lactic acid or PLLA. It is a biostimulator that works by stimulating your body’s own collagen. It is generally injected over 2-4 sessions depending on how much volume loss is being corrected. Sculptra is used to soften a bony or sunken face, to prevent volume loss, and to maintain facial volume and lift. Sculptra results take about 3 months to set in and they last for 24-30 months although most patients get a maintenance Sculptra session every year.
Dermal fillers for wrinkle reduction are cosmetic injectables made of hyaluronic acid. They are gels that are injected to replace facial volume, help aging hands, erase lines and wrinkles, plump earlobes and to get rid of scarring. Dermal fillers for facial wrinkles are different viscosities and our aesthetic injectors in Naples, Traverse City and Petoskey choose the product based on the area being treated. Unlike Sculptra, results are instant with dermal fillers.
The most natural injection or injectable is a platelet product like PRF or PRP because the product is from your own blood. PRF and PRP injections stimulate collagen and improve skin integrity. The most common areas we inject at Cosmetic Skin and Laser Center with PRF and PRP are the under eye hollows, acne scars, fine lines and hands. Natural filler results can be achieved with any filler with an experienced injector who has a good trained eye for proportion and balance.
Dermal fillers for wrinkle reduction last anywhere from 6 months to two years. Generation one fillers like Restylane-L, Restylane Silk and Juvederm generally fade after 6-9 months. Generation two fillers like Restylane Kysse, Voluma, Define, Refine and Contour last around a year. At our medspa and laser center in Naples and northern Michigan, our providers will help you decide which dermal fillers for facial wrinkles are the best fit for you!
Dermal fillers are safe and have few side effects. Some patients may experience mild swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection site. However, these side effects from dermal fillers subside within 3-7 days. After dermal fillers, patients at Cosmetic Skin and Laser Center can resume to their normal activities immediately after treatment. There is no downtime with dermal fillers for wrinkle reduction.
