PRF Microneedling in Traverse City and Petoskey
PRF Microneedling: The Ultimate Facial for All Skin Types
When it comes to a holy grail treatment that gives a glow at any age and any stage, you can’t beat PRF microneedling.
In a world with infinite aesthetic options, this one-hour, 100% natural skincare procedure is beloved by both 20-somethings and 70-somethings in both our Traverse City and Petoskey aesthetic treatment centers.
Why?
No matter your skin type, PRF microneedling is a pain-free, fast procedure that really brings the bang for your buck.
“It’s our staff go-to treatment, for sure,” says CSLC Clinical Director Courtney Lo. “PRF microneedling helps just about everything because it’s actually stimulating new, youthful skin.”
While microneedling on its own increases your skin’s new collagen, combining it with PRF’s growth factors can induce extra collagen production and create new cells and elastin fibers. The end result is an overall improvement in skin hydration, texture and tone that heals faster than just microneedling on its own.
As an added bonus, it boosts the impact of other popular injections like Botox, too.
“Recently I did a series of PRF microneedling treatments to improve my Botox results,” says Lo. “While Botox is still effective for me, I’ve found that as my skin ages, creases stay in my forehead all too easily.”
The hydration and cellular renewal of the PRF microneedling treatments helps counteract those stubborn forehead creases and “plumps” the skin so lines don’t visibly settle so much.
How does PRF work?
PRF is the acronym for platelet-rich fibrin, which is the improved version of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Both PRF and PRP come naturally from your own body.
PRF contains fibrin, white blood cells and platelets, and what really makes PRF a superior therapy to PRP is it also contains stem cells, which are released back into your own skin cells over the course of 10-12 days versus just a few minutes.
“These stem cells and growth factors work to repair your skin, resulting in a younger-looking surface and ongoing regeneration,” says CLSC Master Injector Lee Middleton, RN. “PRF has been approved for use in the medical field for years to help speed post-surgical scar and wound recovery. Today we tap into the same biological process to help keep skin looking fresh and vibrant.”
Obtaining PRF is easy—we do a simple in-office draw of 2-4 vials of your own blood from your arm, which we immediately spin into a special low-speed centrifuge that separates the PRF components.
Then our real work begins, and we either apply the PRF liquid topically and infuse it into your skin via the FDA-approved SkinPen microneedling device (customized to your skin’s thickness), or we inject the PRF directly into the folds, lines and scars of your skin.
How does microneedling help?
Also known as “collagen induction therapy,” microneedling rejuvenates the skin via a handheld pen that’s equipped with very fine needles. As these needles are passed over the skin in a controlled pattern, they create micro-injuries, which set off a cascade of reactions.
Injuries signal to the body, “it’s time to repair,” so the cells naturally go to work to heal and repair the skin, which in turn stimulates collagen and elastin. The end result? Smoother, more radiant and youthful-looking skin.
What to expect with PRF microneedling
We help make the procedure as pain-free as possible by applying a topical numbing cream to your skin 30-40 minutes prior to the microneedling. Once the area is numb, we remove the cream, clean and prep your skin, and begin the treatment, which takes about 20 minutes for the face.
In case you were wondering, it’s not just faces that get microneedled—patients love the results from microneedling their necks, décolletage and hands, and you can see a live PRF microneedling procedure in action on our Instagram reels (@cslcmichigan).
If you’ve upgraded your microneedling with a PRF add on, we draw your blood and extract the PRF in our centrifuge during the numbing process. This liquid, composed of platelets that are separated from the blood cells, is applied topically across the treatment area. As the microneedles create tiny “channels” of injury, the growth factors and healing goodness of the PRF sinks into these channels, well under the skin’s surface, which is part of what makes the combination PRF microneedling treatment more powerful than either procedure performed on its own.
PRF can remain in the layers of the dermis for several days, and it’s common for patients to absolutely love the juicy glow they see on day 1 and wonder where it went to as the swelling from the procedure subsides in the days that follow. Don’t be discouraged—the PRF matrix will continue to work to build your own collagen in the days and weeks that follow, and the best results come from a series of PRF microneedling treatments performed 2-3 times a year.
“I would microneedle my entire body if I could,” says CSLC Front Office Manager Brit Severinsen. “My fine lines and pore size have substantially decreased from regular microneedling.”
