BBL, Moxi, and Halo: How to choose the right laser for your skin

Laser skin rejuvenation is one of the most effective ways to refresh your complexion—without surgery or fillers. Whether you want to correct sun damage, smooth texture, fade redness, or simply restore a healthy glow, today’s technologies make it possible to achieve noticeable results with minimal downtime.

At Cosmetic Skin & Laser Center (CSLC), we offer three of the most trusted options for skin rejuvenation: BBL (BroadBand Light), Moxi, and Halo. While all three treatments improve skin tone, refine texture, and visibly reduce signs of aging, each one is designed for different skin concerns, skin types, and lifestyles.

BBL delivers fast results with virtually no downtime, making it ideal for treating sun damage, redness, and pigmentation. Moxi is a gentle, preventative option for younger patients or those with early signs of aging. And Halo offers the most comprehensive skin renewal, targeting deeper wrinkles, acne scars, and advanced sun damage with just a short recovery period.

Choosing the right treatment depends on your skin goals—and that’s where we come in. Every laser treatment at CSLC is MD-supervised to ensure precision, safety, and optimal outcomes. Whether you want a subtle refresh or dramatic transformation, we’ll help you achieve your best skin.

What is BBL (BroadBand Light)?

BBL is an advanced form of light-based photorejuvenation—different from a traditional laser. It uses broad-spectrum light energy to target pigment and vascular issues in the skin.

How BBL works:

BBL selectively heats pigment (brown spots) and hemoglobin (redness, capillaries), breaking them up so they can be naturally eliminated by the body. It also stimulates collagen production, improving skin tone and elasticity.

Best for:

  • Hyperpigmentation

  • Redness and rosacea

  • Sun damage

  • General skin brightening and photorejuvenation

Downtime:

Typically minimal. You may experience mild redness or temporary darkening of pigment spots before they flake off naturally.

Frequency:

A series of 3–5 sessions for best results, with maintenance 1–2 times per year.

Skin types:

Best for lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick I–III). Your provider will advise if it’s safe for your skin tone.

In our Southeast Michigan Fenton location, BBL is one of the most requested skin treatments—especially in patients looking to reverse the effects of summer sun.

What is Moxi?

Moxi is a gentle, non-ablative fractional laser designed for preventative skin care and early rejuvenation. It works on a superficial level to stimulate collagen and brighten skin tone.

How Moxi works:

Moxi creates controlled microzones of thermal injury in the skin’s surface layers. This triggers new collagen production and skin renewal without damaging deeper tissues.

Best for:

  • Preventative care for younger patients

  • Uneven tone and early signs of aging

  • Maintaining glow and skin health

Downtime:

Very light. You may experience pinkness for a day or two, with makeup typically wearable the next day.

Great for:

All skin tones, including darker Fitzpatrick types (I–VI).

Frequency:

A series of 3 treatments, spaced about 4–6 weeks apart, followed by periodic maintenance.

Though we don’t currently offer Moxi at our North Naples location, our Fenton patients love it as a “prejuvenation” option that keeps skin glowing with almost no downtime.

What is Halo?

Halo is the most advanced of the three options—a hybrid fractional laser that combines both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to treat the skin at multiple depths.

How Halo works:

The ablative wavelength removes damaged outer skin cells, improving texture and tone, while the non-ablative wavelength stimulates deeper collagen remodeling for long-term results.

Best for:

  • Deeper wrinkles and lines

  • Texture irregularities

  • Acne scars

  • Sun damage and pigmentation

Downtime:

Moderate: 3–5 days of bronzing and flaking as the skin renews.

Results:

Dramatic results are often seen after just one treatment, with continued improvement over 4–6 weeks.

Ideal for:

Patients with more mature skin or those ready for a deeper skin reset.

“Halo delivers visible results fast, making it a go-to treatment for patients who want a real skin transformation,” says Keya, PA-C, provider at our North Naples Cosmetic Skin & Laser Center.
