We sat down with Lisa Otero, NP-C, Aesthetic & Regenerative PCP at Cosmetic Skin & Laser Center in Lake Mary and Winter Park, to talk about regenerative aesthetics, why natural results never go out of style, and how helping patients feel confident in their own skin has become one of the most rewarding parts of her career.

Tell us a little about yourself. 
I live in Orlando with my husband and our dog, Figgy.

Outside of work, I love traveling, hiking in the mountains, staying active, and spending time outdoors. Whether we’re exploring somewhere new or enjoying a quiet weekend together, I enjoy experiences that help me recharge and appreciate the outdoors.

What inspired you to pursue a career in aesthetics?
After more than two decades as a nurse, I wanted to transition into a specialty where I could help people feel good every day.

Aesthetic medicine allows me to combine my clinical experience with creativity while helping patients feel more confident and comfortable in their own skin. It’s incredibly rewarding to see someone leave feeling happier than when they arrived.

How has your medical background shaped your approach to aesthetic medicine?
My background includes years in labor and delivery, general surgery, and orthopedic surgery, which taught me precision, patient safety, and compassionate care. Those experiences continue to guide every treatment I perform and reinforce the importance of thoughtful planning, communication, and individualized care.

Have you personally tried any of the treatments you offer? If so, which have been your favorites?
Absolutely. I believe it’s important to understand treatments from both the provider and patient perspective.

Some of my favorites include Sculptra, Radiesse, Ultherapy, microneedling, and other regenerative skin rejuvenation treatments. I love therapies that stimulate your body’s natural collagen production and create gradual, long-lasting improvements.

What’s your philosophy when it comes to aesthetic treatments?
Natural results are always the goal. I don’t believe in chasing trends or dramatic transformations.

My approach is to enhance each person’s natural beauty, restore what time has changed, and help patients look refreshed without looking overdone.

What types of treatments do you specialize in or love performing most?
Injectables are my favorite. I enjoy working with neuromodulators, hyaluronic acid fillers, and biostimulators because they create beautiful, balanced results when used thoughtfully.

I also love regenerative treatments like Ultherapy, IPL, and laser hair removal because healthy skin is the foundation of exceptional aesthetic outcomes.

What are some of the most common concerns patients come to you with?
Many patients are nervous about taking the first step into injectables because they’re worried about looking unnatural.

Others are concerned about facial aging, especially jowling, volume loss, and deepening smile lines. Education is a big part of every consultation because treating the face as a whole often creates the most natural-looking results.

What’s your favorite combination treatment or treatment plan?
For injectables, I love combining Sculptra with neuromodulators to improve facial support while softening expression lines.

For skin rejuvenation, pairing a VI Peel with microneedling creates beautiful improvements in skin tone, texture, and overall radiance, especially for patients with years of Florida sun exposure.

What’s one of your favorite patient success stories?
One patient followed me from my previous practice because she trusted my approach to natural-looking results. Through a personalized treatment plan that included biostimulators, Laser Lift, IPL, microneedling, and Hydrafacials, we achieved a transformation that looked refreshed, healthy, and completely natural. Hearing her tell our team that she’d “follow me anywhere” remains one of the greatest compliments of my career.

Celebrities and “bad plastic surgery” often make clients nervous about treatments. What do you tell them?
The results people notice are usually the exceptions, not the rule.

Beautiful aesthetic work is often invisible because it simply helps someone look rested, healthy, and refreshed. You’re surrounded every day by people who’ve had excellent aesthetic treatments, you just don’t realize it because the results look so natural.

What’s one piece of advice you give every new patient?
Wear sunscreen every single day. Even if you work indoors, daily SPF is one of the most effective ways to protect your skin and preserve your results over time.

How have you seen the field of aesthetics evolve over the last 5 years?
The field has shifted toward regenerative medicine and treatments that stimulate the body’s natural collagen production. Patients are looking for healthier skin and natural, long-term results rather than dramatic changes, and I believe that trend will continue.

What does confidence mean to you?
Confidence means feeling good in your own skin. It’s standing tall, smiling, and feeling comfortable with who you are every time you look in the mirror.

What’s a beauty of skincare myth you love busting?

One of the biggest myths is that dermaplaning causes facial hair to grow back thicker or darker. It doesn’t. Dermaplaning simply removes the fine vellus hair at the surface of the skin, and it grows back exactly the same.

What’s your go-to skincare product or treatment you can’t live without?
