We sat down with Ashley Roddy, MA, Medical Aesthetician at Cosmetic Skin & Laser Center, to talk about her passion for healthy skin, how her own experience with acne inspired her career, and why education is one of the most powerful skincare tools. From collagen-stimulating treatments to customized treatment plans, Ashley shares why lasting skin transformation starts with consistency, prevention, and helping every patient feel confident in their own skin.
Tell us a little about yourself. Where do you live and what do you enjoy outside of work?
I moved to Florida about 12 years ago from a small town in Massachusetts because I was ready for a new adventure. Outside of work, I love baking, and the girls at the office definitely benefit from that because I’m always bringing in sweet treats. I also love fitness, spending time in the gym, and going for long walks. I like to keep a healthy balance between staying active and enjoying life.
What inspired you to puruse a career in aesthetics?
I’ve always struggled with cystic acne, so skincare became very personal to me. Before becoming an aesthetician, I worked at a day spa where my boss would perform facials on me regularly, and seeing how much my skin transformed completely changed my perspective. That experience sparked my passion for aesthetics and inspired me to go to aesthetic school so I could help other people experience that same confidence.
Have you personally tried the treatments you offer? Which ones are your favorites?
I’ve tried so many treatments, but microneedling will always be my favorite. I’m a huge believer in collagen stimulation because it delivers incredible, long-term results while supporting overall skin health. It’s comfortable for patients with proper numbing, and the results speak for themselves.
What’s your philosophy when it comes to aesthetic treatments?
I believe aesthetic treatments should enhance your natural beauty while supporting the overall health of your skin. Healthy skin is the foundation of everything we do.
Education is also a huge part of my philosophy. When patients understand why they’re using certain products or receiving certain treatments, they’re much more likely to stay consistent and achieve great results.
What treatments do you enjoy performing the most?
As a Master Hydrafacialist, Hydrafacial will always have a special place in my heart because patients love the instant glow and deep clean they get after treatment.
Microneedling is another favorite because of the incredible collagen-building benefits and long-term improvements in skin quality.
What concerns do patients most commonly come to you with?
It definitely varies by location, but here in Winter Park I see a lot of acne, pigmentation, and melasma. Living in Florida, sun exposure plays a huge role in skin concerns, and hormonal changes can also contribute to pigmentation and breakouts.
Helping patients improve both acne and pigmentation is something I really enjoy.
What’s your favorite combination treatment plan?
I love alternating microneedling and VI Peels about a month apart, with Hydrafacials or DiamondGlow treatments in between.
Each treatment plays a different role. Microneedling stimulates collagen deep within the skin, VI Peels brighten pigmentation and improve tone, and Hydrafacial or DiamondGlow helps keep the skin healthy and hydrated between treatments. Together, they create beautiful, natural skin transformations.
One of your favorite patient success stories?
One patient had been seeing me regularly for facials for quite some time, and I noticed a suspicious lesion on her face that didn’t seem quite right. I encouraged her several times to have it evaluated by a dermatologist.
She eventually did, and it turned out to be a cancerous lesion.
Moments like that remind people that skincare is about much more than appearance. Regular skin evaluations during facial treatments can play an important role in overall skin health.
Many people think aesthetics is only about appearance. How do you apprach skin health?
For me, everything comes back to healthy skin.
Rather than chasing trends, I focus on improving skin health first because beautiful skin naturally looks refreshed and radiant. When your skin is healthy, the results speak for themselves.
What’s one piece of advice you give every new patient?
Home care matters just as much as what we do in the treatment room.
I always tell patients that their results are about 80% home care and 20% in-office treatments. You can receive amazing treatments every few months, but if you’re not taking care of your skin every day, you’re missing a huge part of the equation.
Consistency is what creates lasting results.
How is CSLC different from other med spas?
I love that we create truly comprehensive treatment plans.
We don’t simply perform the treatment someone is booked for that day. We take the time to understand their goals, build a customized plan, and combine aesthetic treatments with regenerative medicine when appropriate. Looking at both internal and external health allows us to create much better long-term outcomes.
How have you seen aesthetics evolve over the last 5 years?
I’ve seen a major shift toward education, personalization, and natural-looking results.
Patients are more informed than ever because of social media, but they’re also asking more thoughtful questions. They’re becoming more interested in collagen stimulation, prevention, and maintaining healthy skin rather than dramatic transformations.
I love seeing that shift.
Where do you see aesthetic medicine heading in the next 5-10 years?
I think we’ll continue seeing an even greater focus on prevention, skin quality, and long-term skin health.
Rather than trying to dramatically change someone’s appearance, aesthetic medicine is moving toward helping people age beautifully by supporting their skin over time.
What does confidence mean to you?
Confidence is feeling comfortable and empowered in your own skin.
My goal is always to help patients become the best version of themselves, not someone else.
What’s a skincare myth you love busting?
One of my biggest skincare myths is when people think they shouldn’t wash their face in the morning.
Overnight, your skin accumulates oil, sweat, bacteria, and residue from your pillowcase. You don’t need a harsh cleanser, but using a gentle cleanser every morning creates a clean foundation for your daytime skincare routine and sunscreen.
It’s one of the simplest habits that can make a real difference.
